Stop Boring Me!: How to Create Kick-Ass Marketing Content, Products and Ideas Through the Power of Improv by Kathy Klotz-Guest
Kathy Klotz-Guest is a business storytelling strategist, author, speaker, and comedian.
The founder of Keeping it Human, her professional mission in life is to help organizations turn jargon-monoxide into compelling business stories, abolish boring marketing, and uncover boldly creative ideas for marketing content, products, branding and more.
A stand-up comic and improviser, Kathy has written one other book on humor, content, and storytelling: The Marketing Executive’s Bedtime Guide to Better Content and Storytelling with Humor.
The Host’s Perspective:
In Stop Boring Me, the author frames the problem for marketers this way:
There is too little meaningful content today awash in a sea of ineffective content chasing an already oversaturated customer.
The key is to insert creativity, humanity and fun if you’re going to get any kind of results for your business.
Drawing on her background in standup and improv comedy, the author brilliantly (and entertainingly) explains that emotions trump logic and that every human in every transaction has a want that goes deeper than the transaction itself.
And one of the most important things for marketers and salespeople to understand about buyers is that they are not buying your products or services. They are buying change. And the better that you understand that, the more successful you’ll be in getting through to them.
The book also includes what the author refers to as “idea orgasms” – 20 improv-based exercises to unleash creative ideas to help you better break through the sea of sameness and help you connect with your buyers on a deeper, more emotional level.
